There. I said it. It’s out in the open. Condemn me if you will, but I like the guy.
Yea. I know. He’s arrogant and egotistical, but I don’t have to live or work with the guy. I have the luxury of appreciating him from a distance.
I’ve always admired people who always knew what they wanted to do in life, then done it. I’ve never been blessed with that quality and always wished I had been.
It is a trait that has defined William Shatner’s entire life.
He started his career as a child performer in radio, became a Shakespearean actor, acted on Broadway, was in many movies, television series, was a beauty pageant host, did television advertising, and untold live performances. In his spare time he wrote books.
William Shatner is known as a “working actor”. That means she shows up, does what is expected of him, and doesn’t throw temperamental tantrums.
I admire that.
One thing I love about the guy is he’ll try just about anything and doesn’t give a rip if he makes a fool of himself. And he makes a fool of himself a lot.
Most people would be devastated if they became the laughing stock Rocket Man made Bill. But the willingness to take such a huge risk is what makes him cool.
He tries stuff. If it doesn’t work out he moves on. If it works out he does it some more. No painful self examination, self exploration, just “Oh well. Let’s try something else.”.
Now that is cool.
Not only he is a cool, he is a cool 80 year old.
And there aren’t that many cool 80 year olds out there anymore.
